As most cloth diapering mamas would agree, if you are cloth diapering - cloth wipes are just as affordable, easy and natural! It is estimated that over the diapering year, you can save about $500 just by using cloth wipes. This was estimated at one box of 8 wipes used per week costing $4/box.
Aside from the cost saving, one of the most convenient things when cloth diapering and using cloth wipes is that you can throw all your dirties in one place. If you use disposable wipes you have to separate your cloth diapers from your wipes and have a 2 different containers for them and that can get messy.
How many do I need?
If using cloth wipes full time, it is a good idea to have 24-36 wipes on hand. Some moms like to mix the textures of the wipes up - some soft and squishy wipes and some with a bit of texture for those times when you need to clean a mess.
How do I use them? Wet or Dry?
Like cloth diapering, using cloth wipes can be as easy or as complicated as you want to make it.
DRY SYSTEM - Keep your stack of wipes dry and wet them just before use. Some like to wet several with warm water right before a change, while some prefer to keep a spray bottle (peri bottles work great too) with or without a wipes solution handy by the changing area. There are several different wipes solution options - some are already prepared in a spray bottle and ready to go!
WET SYSTEM - Prepare your wipes solution and soak your wipes in the solution and then store your wipes in a container, like a wipes warmer or some other wipes container of your choosing. Keep the wipes container near the changing station and you are ready to go!
It is also worth noting, that depending on your baby's skin sensitivity, you may want to forgo using disposable wipes and also a wipes solution and just use water to wet your cloth wipes.
