HOW TO WASH YOUR CLOTH DIAPERS
Two of the most common questions we get is "how do we wash our cloth diapers?" and "what detergent should I use?" A collective group of cloth diaper manufacturers got together and developed this guide to washing your diapers. While these instructions are not meant to be the authority on washing or which detergent to use, it is a great place to start.
If you are like most cloth diapering moms you are always on the quest for the best detergent for you! Which one cleans the best? Gets rid of the stinkies the best? The best method for getting rid of stinkies is a few HOT washes with no detergents or additives. If that isn't cracking it for you, add a packet of RLR. It busts through mineral deposits and all the residue your detergent leaves behind in your clothes/diapers. It's excellent for stripping cloth diapers!
Anyone you ask will have a different opinion on which detergent you should use. Additionally, detergents work differently depending on whether you have hard or soft water. When looking for a detergent for your diapers or for your everyday clothes, you should look for a detergent that is free of enzymes, harsh scents, dyes and optical brighteners.
If you are using cloth diapers, it is a good idea to check with your manufacturer to make sure that the detergent you are using will not void your warranty. You can also refer to the instructions above as it lists commonly approved detergents.
If you are undecided, I recommend purchasing the Create Your Own Laundry Sampler and sampling a little bit of everything! If you ever have any questions, please ask us at info@momsmilkboutique.com.
Happy Laundering!
