Considering getting started with Cloth Pads?
Approximately 20 billion pads, tampons and applicators are thrown away each year in the USA and Canada alone! It is estimated that each woman uses 16-17,000 tampons/pads in her lifetime. Cloth pads and reusable cups are an excellent way to save money and the environment! By choosing to join the ranks of other "mama clothers" we can help save a tremendous amount of natural resources.
How many do I need?
Women's cycles and flows vary greatly among women. Depending on how frequently you want to do laundry (most people will wash every other day), we recommend 6 - 10 pads for day and 1 to 3 night pads to get you started with cloth pads. Pantyliners are a great supplement for light days. If you find you need more, you can always add additional pads.
If you prefer a tampon - then you will want to get a Diva Cup or Sea Sponge Tampons. Pads are always a nice back up though while you are adjusting to the reusable cup/tampon option.
Storage on the go?
We recommend a small wetbag. They are waterproof, plus there are a lot of fun prints to choose from!
How to care for Cloth Pads?
It is a good idea to rinse the pads in cold water at your first opportunity. You can let the pads soak in a basin of cold water with a little bit of Bac-Out Stain & Odor Eliminator or hydrogen peroxide. The soaking will help prevent stains. Wash with towels or cloth diapers every couple of days in warm water with an effective natural laundry detergent of your choice. We like Allen's Naturally or Charlie's Soap Laundry Powder.
